Diabetics can eat sugar. It’s been official since 2002 when the ban on sugar, previously the evil of all evils, was lifted from the diabetic diet. Sugar even appears on the Diabetes Food Pyramid.

Doctors and scientists agreed back then that sugar acts the same way in the body as many other carbohydrates, or starches — they’re all converted to glucose. Blood sugar (glucose) levels rise as rapidly after eating a bowl of pasta as after eating a slice of angel food cake or a candy bar.
