An expert on obesity in Australian children says the problem is the medical equivalent of climate change. A new report released today has found the teenage years are critical in predicting obesity in adults.
Reporter Mark Smith says the study by the Menzies Institute found that children with severe weight problems are up to nine times more likely to become obese adults. Paediatrician Professor Louise Baur says fundamental changes are needed. “Obesity is a the public health equivalent of climate change and we’re not going to deal with it by simply tinkering around the edges”.
