Certain fruits and vegetables may reduce your risk of cancer and may even help stop cancer in its tracks, according to new research. While there’s not really an “anticancer diet,” eating plenty of certain fruits and vegetables can help reduce your risk of getting cancer, researchers reported today at the American Association for Cancer Research’s Sixth Annual International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research in Philadelphia.

People in their 20s and 30s face shorter lives because of poor diets, experts said. And today’s children could have even shorter life spans. Prof Jay Olshansky, of the International Research Centre for Healthy Ageing and Longevity, forecast that within 50 years the life span in Western countries could drop by up to five years.

For the first time, makers of dietary supplements, including vitamins and herbal pills, will be required to test their products, the Food and Drug Administration said Friday. Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, which passed in 1994, supplement makers were told they must be able to substantiate the safety of their ingredients.
